A first night's mooring in Limehouse basin offers an ideal base for exploring the city on your first afternoon with us. Our route out of London is via the Regent's canal, through Islington and Camden, before we find ourselves an evening mooring in Little Venice, an oasis amongst the hustle and bustle of the capital. Tree-lined avenues run parallel to the canal, overlooked by fine Regency houses, in one of the finest stretches of urban canal in the country.
On leaving our mooring at Little Venice the next morning, we wind our way along the Paddington arm of the Grand Union canal. This canal, whilst urban, is surprisingly secluded, passing the backs of houses in Kensington and Notting Hill before sneaking past the train sidings at Old Oak Common and dodging the spotlights on the towers of the famous Wormwood Scrubs prison to escape to the outskirts of the city.
At Bulls Bridge, we turn left onto the main line of the canal and descend Hanwell locks to Brentford. Osterley and Syon parks are nearby and there may be time for a visit whilst we await the tide at Brentford basin.
We join the River Thames at Brentford in full view of Kew Gardens and head upstream, passing Richmond, Teddington and Kingston upon Thames before a stop at Henry VIII's magnificent palace at Hampton Court. We will give you time to explore the palace, gardens or even the famous maze here.
There are yet more royal connections at Runnymede and, of course, Windsor with its fine castle. We shall finish the week with a mooring in the middle of the action opposite the colleges of Eton.
