Ware (Hertford) to London Docklands (Limehouse Basin)

Dates: 11 September till 18 September (7 nights)

This cruise first takes us on the little-known Rivers Lee and Stort. These rivers are really a wonderful rural delight, and truly undiscovered gems in hidden countryside so close to London.

From Ware, we cruise downstream on the River Lee through Amwell Quarry Nature Reserve and past the picturesque Stanstead Abbotts to join the River Stort. Here we cruise in splendid isolation amongst water meadows, past several old water mills and the memorable Pishiobury Park. The Stort has a different character to the River Lee, with a narrow winding path and low bridges to frame the views. We pass Harlow and Sawbridgeworth before retracing our route and rejoining the River Lee.

Cruising past Broxbourne and Waltham Abbey and the many pretty reservoirs supplying London's water, we take the time to explore this beautiful secret valley teeming with wildlife but still so close to civilisation. We then make our way via the Limehouse cut into Limehouse basin and the hustle and bustle of London's revitalised Docklands – the perfect base for an afternoon exploring the capital city.

As a bonus, we shall make time on the final evening to take in one of the spectacular shows in London's famous West End.
