Our first two days cruising will include a circuit on the newly opened Droitwich canals, which connect the River Severn with the Worcester & Birmingham canal north of Worcester city centre. The Droitwich Barge canal leaves the Severn via a flight of wide locks to take us up to Droitwich Basin in the town, whilst the Junction canal uses a new narrow staircase lock to ease us up the hill to Hanbury. Here, we turn right to return slowly to Worcester in a 20-mile cruising ring.</P> <P>With some canal locks under our belt, we progress back out on to the Severn to make the journey downstream to Tewkesbury, a lovely town renowned for its Abbey and many fine old houses lining the main streets. Here we join the River Avon, negotiating the famous Eckington bridge with its old sandstone arches pitted by time. Passing through market garden country, the towns of Pershore and Evesham welcome us with their impressive waterfronts, teaming with activity. The locks on the Avon are all set in beautiful surroundings, usually accompanied by a tall mill dominating the valley at each point. </P> <P>We continue to Bidford with its much-photographed church and narrow medieval bridge to approach Stratford-upon-Avon, thronging with visitors of all nationalities.
